Obituary

Irvin 'Irv' Hanson Jr., 89, of Idaho Falls, died Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Lincoln Court Retirement Community after battling cancer, surrounded by his family. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.

Irv was born on December 31, 1927, in Shelley, Idaho, to Irven H. and Laura Christensen Hanson. He grew up in the Taylor and Rigby area. He attended Rigby High School.

He served in the United States Army from February 1946 until he was honorably discharged in April 1947.

On August 18, 1951, he married Nona Jean Fullmer in Ogden, Utah. Together they raised three children. Nona died on November 20, 2011.

He worked in construction and concrete in the early years of employment. Then he started working for the United States Postal Service in Idaho Falls, for 24 years until his retirement. After Irv retired he and Nona enjoyed several winters in Yuma, Arizona, where they made many wonderful friends.

Irv was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He enjoyed being outdoors where he spent his time golfing, fishing, and camping. Spending time watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing sports was a highlight to Irv. Irv shared a 40-year friendship with Bill W.

Irv was a hard worker, independent, and had a sense of humor. He had an amazing memory and strong ideas of how things should be done. He also had firm beliefs that a little caulk will fix most things.

He is survived by his children: Linda (Greg) Lenz, Ron (Paula) Hanson, and Paul Hanson, all of Idaho Falls, Idaho; his sister Marilyn (Delbert) Walker, of Orofino, Idaho; 9 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nona Jean Hanson; and his parents: Irven and Laura Hanson; and eight siblings.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Lincoln Court for their exemplary, loving care that they showed to Irv going above and beyond their duties. A thank you to the staff of Aspen Hospice for the outstanding care that was given to dad.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, July 31, 2017, at the Taylor Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m., at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to your local food bank in Irv's name. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com .
