Obituary

Our beloved mother, Isabel Wheeler, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the age of 83. She was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Italian and Argentine parents, Isabel carried with her a love for both the country of her birth and the country she later made her home, the United States. She emigrated in 1967 and became a proud U.S. citizen.

In 1969, she married Robert T. Wheeler, who served 26 years in the United States military, first in the Navy and later in the Army. Throughout his years of service, Isabel devoted herself to supporting him and raising their family. She embraced the many moves and challenges of military life with resilience and grace, creating a loving home wherever they lived—including North Carolina, Germany, Panama, New York, and more—before settling in Idaho, the place that became her lasting home.

At the age of 21, Isabel was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She promised to remain faithful and kept that promise throughout her life. She served in many of the organizations of the Church across several countries and expressed deep love for the people she met along the way. Her faith was a guiding strength and a source of peace, and she shared that light with all who knew her.

Her life was marked by quiet strength, sacrifice, and devotion. She left behind the closeness of her family in Argentina to build a new life abroad, instilling in her children the values of resilience, faith, and love. When Robert passed away in December 1994, Isabel remained in the Idaho Falls home they had chosen together, where she lived with her daughter, Shireen, until her own passing.

Isabel is survived by her four children: Thayne (Lisa) Wheeler, David (Traci) Wheeler, Mitchell (Tahnee) Wheeler, and Shireen Wheeler, as well as her 15 grandchildren, who were her joy. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her father Domenico, and her mother Amanda.

Her family will remember her not only for her gentleness and sacrifice, but also for her courage, her love of beauty and art, and for the deep affection she carried for her homeland of Argentina and her steadfast devotion to the United States. Most of all, they will remember her for her abiding testimony of the love of our Heavenly Father and His Son, and for the constant guidance of the Holy Ghost. She taught her family to turn to their Heavenly Father in every challenge, leaving them with a legacy of enduring faith, love, and devotion.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Milo Church, 12127 North 75th East. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to services at the church.
