Jack Harold Edelmayer, 86, of Roberts, Idaho, passed away Sunday May 3, 2015, at his home. He was under the care of his family and Hands of Hope Hospice. Jack was born March 22, 1929, in Roberts, Idaho, to John Peter and Ora May Edelmayer. He was delivered at home by a pioneer, Dr. Earl Jones, at home. Jack grew up and resided his entire life in Roberts. During the summer of 1948, he went to work in West Yellowstone, logging timber. He saved all his money to buy his first home in Roberts for himself and his bride to be. He married Carmen Drake on October 17, 1949 and resided in Roberts for the rest of their lives. Together they had 6 children. He began work at an early age thrashing grain and working alongside his father for local farmers. With the knowledge he gained early in his life, he became a pioneer himself in farming, breaking new ground for growing potatoes in the local area. Jack worked for many of the pioneer farmers of the area, including Ray McCarty, and Paul Wingert. For many years, he was the foreman at the local warehouse, Crest Produce, for Bob Belson. During this time, he employed many of the local young men and women in the area, sorting, packing and shipping potatoes. Before retirement, he was employed as a maintenance foreman for the City of Roberts and the local fire department. He also worked for Market Lake Canal Company; Butte, Montana (mines) and New Mexico-Arizona (pipeline). He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. When he was young, his brother, Bruce, taught him how to trap and in turn, he taught his own sons. Together, along with his brother-in-law, M.O. Drake, he spent the winter months trapping the local area rivers and sloughs for muskrat, fox, coyotes and bobcats to support his family. In retirement, he enjoyed collecting commemorative plates portraying the early farming and thrashing grain, with young boys his age working in the fields alongside their folks. Jack especially enjoyed gardening, visiting with friends and neighbors. He spent his later years as the main caretaker of his wife during her illnesses, never leaving her side until her passing on April 13, 2015. Jack was a wonderful man, strived for perfection in his work, an educator in many fields of work and recreation, loved and respected by all who knew him, worked hard and played hard, maintained a sense of humor until his passing. He is survived by his children: Kevin(Patty) Edelmayer of Roberts, Idaho; James Edelmayer of Roberts, Idaho; Tamra Piazza of Roberts, Idaho; Nan (Kirby) McFarland of Rigby, Idaho; Kim Edelmayer of Mountain View, Wyoming; and Shari (Roger) Bradford of Boise, Idaho; 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen; parents, John and Ora May Edelmayer; half-brothers and sisters: Bruce, Roger, Grace, Mary, Doris and Delette Rising; his brother, James Edelmayer: sister, Darlene Edelmayer; grandson, Jonathon McFarland; and his great-granddaughter, Mia Jean Edelmayer.
