John "Jack" Francis Ryan, 88, of Iona, died December 15, 2009, at Life Care Center of Idaho Falls of complications from Alzheimers. He was born July 19, 1921, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to James Leo Ryan and Evelyn Merwin Ryan. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls. He attended Holy Rosary Catholic School through 6th grade and in 1940, Jack graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He worked for Harts Bakery while attending high school. He served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. On March 11, 1946, he married Beth Beazer in Boise. They were later divorced. On November 6th, 1975, he married VerLee "Lee" Oseen in Idaho Falls. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service, the Bonneville County Assessor's office, owned and operated Ryan Polaris in Ririe, and was a well-known high school and college basketball referee. His true love was farming and ranching which he did east of Idaho Falls for over 30 years in the area now known as Tex Creek Wildlife Management. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, camping, traveling, golfing and he was a member of the Elks Lodge. He is survived by the following: wife, Lee Ryan of Iona; sons: Kim (Ida) Ryan of Iona and Stephen Ryan of Lincoln; Randall Oseen of Boise; Kent (Shari) Oseen of Idaho Falls and Blake (Tammy) Oseen of Eagle, Idaho; daughters: Terry Ryan of Lincoln; Rosemary (Kevin) Bailey of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Cathleen (Robert) Westover of Clearfield, Utah; Jeannine (Mark) Groethe of Las Vegas, Nevada; Peggy (Davis) Katsilometes of Cleveland, Ohio; and Shannon Oseen of Georgetown, Texas; 47 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James "Jim" Ryan, and a daughter, Wendy Oseen Stoffel. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 21, 2009, at the Iona LDS 10th Ward Chapel, 5169 E. Denning Ave., with Bishop Albert Davidson officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, and at the church Monday one hour prior to the services.
