James Reed Barnes, 91, of Idaho Falls, died December 27, 2005, at the Gables Assisted Living of Ammon. He had been under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.
He was born July 23, 1914, in Blackfoot, Idaho, the tenth of twelve children, to Oscar Barnes and Mary Ellen Bennett Barnes. He grew up in the Lewisville-Rigby area and graduated from Midway High School in 1932. He attended Ricks College.
On July 28, 1938, he married Doris E. Marks in the Logan LDS Temple. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and foreman at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Lab for 31 years. He retired from there in 1979. He also worked on the Palisades Dam.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he served in various positions throughout his life.
He enjoyed motorcycles, zipper art, oil painting, fishing, hunting, golfing, baseball (hanging up his baseball shoes at 55), and especially time spent with family and friends.
He was a gentle, soft spoken man who lived long, loved well, and looked for the adventurous side of life.
He is survived by the following: wife, Doris Barnes of Idaho Falls daughter, Myrna (Richard "Dick") Pickett of Idaho Falls son, Gary (Virginia) Barnes of Idaho Falls daughter, Lynne (Mark) Williamson of Lewisville son, Darius (Sally) Barnes of Ft. Myers, Florida 19 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren brother, Merlin (Eleanore) Barnes of Las Vegas, NV
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 8 sisters, and a great-grandson, Bo Halford.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2005, at the Lewisville First Ward, 101 E. Main in Lewisville with Bishop James Gneiting presiding and Bishop Brian Pickett conducting. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. In Idaho Falls.
