Obituary

James "Klink" David Klingenberg Jr., 82, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016, at his home of cardio obstructive pulmonary disease, COPD. He was under the care of One Source Hospice.

He was born October 11, 1933, in Bakersfield, California, to David James Klingenberg Sr. and Adelaide Kathern Quinn. He grew up in Bakersfield.  He graduated from Lowell High School in San Francisco.

He attended Idaho State University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Engineering.

Jim served with the United States Army during the Korean War. He attended radio operator's school at Iwo Jima, Japan. While also in Japan, he trained in radio teletype and chemical biological and radiological warfare.

He worked for Western Electric Company and the United States Post Office.  He worked for Mel Brown and part time at the US Geological Survey and the USDA Soil Conservation District.

Jim married Barbara Jean Lundberg on January 9, 1955, in Elko, Nevada.  Jim and Barbara enjoyed doing temple work in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.  Barbara passed away July 11, 2005. He later married Deborah Ann Kolbe.

Besides Bakersfield, he spent most of his life in Idaho Falls.

Jim gave service to the Red Cross for 10 years. He was a member of the Idaho Falls Fire Department and he retired as a fire marshal. He was a founding member of the Hansen Hero's, the beginning of the Idaho Falls paramedic program.

He enjoyed fishing, traveling, going to museums, spending time with his family who he loved to talk and visit with.  He was one of the best teachers you would ever meet.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Ann Klingenberg of Idaho Falls; son, Stephen (Stacey) Klingenberg of Vancouver, Washington; son-in-law, Ricardo Chavez of North Carolina; granddaughters: Stephanie Jean Chavez (Laurence) Nadeau of North Carolina and Gretchen (Kristofer) Hoyt of Vancouver, Washington; grandson, Jonathan Klingenberg of Washington; great-granddaughter, Cora Hoyt of Vancouver, Washington; and a brother, Richard (Tina) Klingenberg of Idaho Falls.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Barbara; a daughter, Terri Lynn Chavez; adopted mother, Faye Marie (Eldon) Peterson of Idaho Falls; step-mother, Marjorie Brown (David) Klingenberg, and  grandparents, Charles A and Musetta Quinn.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 10 and one hour prior to the services both at the mortuary. Military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard at Rose Hill Cemetery.
