James Alfred Workman (65) passed away March 30, 2011, of cancer while wintering in St. George, Utah. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who always put others before himself. Calm, patient, and quick-witted, Jim's parting gift to his family was that he kept them laughing until the end. Jim was born November 14, 1945, in Tooele, Utah, a home he always loved, to Leonard Nephi Workman and Julia DeRose Workman. An avid athlete, he graduated from Tooele High School in 1964 and attended Utah State University on a golf scholarship. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in Guatemala and El Salvador. After his mission, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in business from Brigham Young University and served in the Army ROTC as a Second Lieutenant. On September 5, 1969, he married Lana Nebeker of La Grande, Oregon, in the Salt Lake City LDS temple. Together, they raised six children in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. After many years in the banking industry, Jim established a real estate appraising business in Idaho Falls, Idaho, in 1992. He was active in the community, serving in the Kiwanis Club and in many callings in the LDS church, including president of the Idaho Falls Spanish Branch. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, grandchildren, and friends. He also loved long drives along Idaho's scenic highways and heaping plates of his mother's spaghetti and meatballs. He is survived by his wife, Lana, and his children, Marnie Robison (Dan) of St. George, Utah; Greg Workman (Tricia) of Ammon, Idaho; Brandon Workman (Christina) of Kansas City, Missouri; Lindsay Yea (Mike) of Washington, D.C.; Mitch Workman (Melanie) of Rexburg, Idaho; Elise Gilbert (Ted) of Provo, Utah; and sixteen grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Julia Workman of Tooele, Utah; his siblings, Judy Martinez (the late John Martinez) of Tooele, Utah; Melvin Workman (Debbie) of South Jordan, Utah; John Workman of Salt Lake City, Utah; Frank Workman (Tina Richardson) of Tooele, Utah; and Julie Workman of Tooele, Utah. He leaves behind aunts, uncles, in-laws, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Nephi Workman and a grandson, Jesse Workman. A viewing will be held in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, April 3, 2011, at the Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 4, at 1:00 pm, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, at the Parkview Ward (20th and Emerson) under the direction of Bishop Brad Backman, with a viewing prior. A graveside service annd internment will be Tuesday, April 5, at 1:00 p.m. at the Tooele, Utah, cemetery, under the direction of Bishop David Olsen, Jim's nephew.
