Obituary

Jarvis Anderson, 79, of Ammon, Idaho, died Sunday August 16, 2009, at his home. He was born July 10, 1930, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Marvin Joseph Anderson and Flora May Hammer Anderson. Jarvis was raised in Ammon and graduated from Ammon High School in 1948. He left the Rocky Mountains to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in his grandparent's home country of Denmark. Upon his return, he married his college sweetheart, Sadie Venetta Buttars, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on August 26, 1953. They began the cultivation of family and farm on a small grade AA dairy on the homestead he had grown up on. While raising cows and children, he continued working on the completion of his teaching certificate at Ricks College. Following the completion of his teaching certificate, he taught at the Taylor school for three years. His farming entrepreneurship took him to Monteview, Idaho, where he raised dairy grade alfalfa and opened a snowmobile dealership. Completion of a renewed teaching certificate and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Idaho State University took him to Shelley where he taught school at Goodsell Elementary and Hobbs Middle School. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he held numerous positions among which were Counselor and then Bishop, High Councilor, and a 12 month full time mission in the St. George Visitor's Center with his wife. They returned to Ammon in 2006. His family came first in his life followed by his love for storytelling. He also enjoyed gardening, camping, snowmobiling, and building birdhouses. Jarvis was a gregarious and caring man who genuinely loved people and always took the opportunity to share his testimony of Christ's love for each of us; his actions and attitude created a circle of influence extending from recent acquaintances to well know community friends, church members, close friends and family. He is survived by: his wife, Venetta Anderson of Ammon;daughters: Trina Ramirez of Ammon and Teresa (John) Allen of Monteview;sons: Thomas (Mashell) Anderson of Idaho Falls; Travis (Wendy) Anderson of Cedar Hills, UT; Jalin (Christine) Anderson of Saratoga Springs, UT; and John (Dawn) Anderson of Provo, UT; 23 grandchildren;12 great-grandchildren;brothers: Merlin and Marvin (Rose Marie) Anderson both of Ammon; and a sister, Shirley (Merlyn) Browning of Shelley. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Marcel, Dorcel and Alton; a sister, Marcine; 2 grandchildren, Shandi and Shirlyn; and a great-grandchild, Shandi Rose. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009, at the Ammon LDS 28th Ward Chapel, 3934 E. 49th South with Bishop Scott Woolstenhulme officiating.
