Obituary

Jay Paul Jackson, 57, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at his home.

Jay was born on October 29, 1966, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Keith Smout and LaRae Purser Jackson. He grew up with his family in Rigby, and Maupin, Oregon. Jay graduated from Rigby High School in 1984. Shortly after high school in the fall he enlisted in the Army and served for about four years in Honduras.

Jay was an excellent cabinet maker for years, designing work with cabinet builds. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His hobbies were fishing and camping, and he especially enjoyed golfing.

He is survived by his mother, LaRae Jackson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; step-mother: Charlene Smout of Rigby, Idaho; daughters: Megan (Forrest) McClure of Prineville, Oregon, Lindsay Carter of Livingston, Montana, and April Vail of Redmond, Oregon; son: Nick Randle of Prineville, Oregon; 2 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and one more on the way; sisters: Suzanna (Walter) Frost of Layton, Utah, Janie (Chuck) Camp of Rigby, Idaho, Debbie (Bill) Daybrest of South Dakota, and Kathy Jackson of Soda Springs, Idaho: brothers: Justin (Stephanie) Jackson of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Darwin (Deanna) Smout of Rigby, Idaho, and Rusty Jackson of Lava, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews.

Jay was preceded in death by his father, Keith Smout, and stepfather, Tharen Jackson.

A celebration of life will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Rigby City Park (small pavilion), 200-298 N 1st W., Rigby. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com
