Jay Dee Pilgrim, 74, of Idaho Falls, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of natural causes. Jay was born March 11, 1937, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Ray Hadfield Pilgrim and LaVene Morris Pilgrim. He grew up in the Riddyville area near McCammon, Idaho. He attended Marsh Valley High School after which he served four years in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-1960, serving all over the world. After his military service, he continued his education at Central Utah Vocational School in Provo, Utah, graduating in Diesel Mechanics. On September 20, 1963, he married Mariel Wilson in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. Jay and Mariel met in Provo, Utah, while attending school. Following their marriage, they lived in Pocatello, ID before moving to Idaho Falls, ID in 1977. Jay worked as a farmhand while in the McCammon area. He worked for Singer Sewing Center and BY's Market in Provo, Roger's Brothers in Pocatello, and Basic American Foods in Idaho Falls. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as the ward clerk, executive secretary, membership clerk, High Priest Group Leader, and for seven years as a family history missionary. Jay loved cars, watching sports, maintaining his lawn, riding three-wheelers and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by the following: wife, Mariel Pilgrim of Idaho Falls; daughters: Becky Pilgrim of Pocatello, Della Pilgrim of Idaho Falls, and Caroline (Craig) Stone of Ammon; sons: Jay Ray (Holly) Pilgrim of O'Neill, Nebraska; William Pilgrim of Garden City, Idaho; Robert Pilgrim of Idaho Falls and Gary Pilgrim of Idaho Falls; sister, LaRae (Byron, deceased) Cammack of Rigby, ID; and his grandchildren: Caitlin and Brooklyn Stone and Jayson, Carson and Connor Pilgrim. Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and LaVene Pilgrim; a sister, Dorcus Lemmon and a brother, Steve Pilgrim. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2011, at the Iona LDS Seventh Ward Chapel, 930 N. Crimson Dr., with Bishop Drew Smith officiating. The family will visit with family and friends Thursday, July 7, 2011, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, and at the church on Friday one hour prior to the services.
