Jean Evelyn Rollins Shewmaker, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away Monday, November 19, 2012, at her home at Lincoln Court. She was under the care of One Source Hospice. She was born June 18, 1929, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Charles and Evelyn Rollins. Jean grew up in Somerville, Massachusetts. In 1959, she married Piatt "Pat" Shewmaker, who was a 27 year Navy veteran, in Norfolk, Virginia, where they lived and raised their family. Pat passed away in 2005 and in 2009, Jean moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho. Jean loved being a "Nana" and loved spending time with her family and friends. There is no doubt Jean was "Nana" and we will all miss "Nana". She enjoyed needlepoint, crochet, crafting of any kind and cake decorating. In her sixties, she took an interest in painting and became an accomplished artist. One of her favorite pastimes was playing card games. The Scrabble board was always ready. In Virginia, Jean and Pat joined the Sons of Norway and enjoyed the functions and special friendships made along the way. She loved all her animals, particularly her four parrots. Jean is survived by her four children: Gloria (Jim) Holtz of Clayton, New York; Linwood (Debbie) Wentzell of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Gail (Bill) Holland of Amissville, Virginia; and Darren (Melodi) Shewmaker of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a brother, Bruce Rollins of Somerville, Massachusetts; 6 grandchildren 9 great-grandchildren and her parrot, "Rookie," who was her constant chair side companion. Besides her parents, and husband, Pat, she was preceded in death by her sister, Gail Abate and a brother, Richard Rollins. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 30, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at Lincoln Court Retirement Community, 850 Lincoln Drive in Idaho Falls.
