Jeanne Rigby passed away peacefully on April 1, 2016.
Born on April 10, 1932 in Rexburg, Idaho, she was raised by her beloved mother, Afton DeMott and father Joseph (Joe) DeMott. Her childhood was spent with her favorite dog Stubby, climbing trees and running like the wind.
Upon graduating from Madison High School, she attended the University of Idaho where she studied psychology and art and was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. During her tenure as etiquette chairman for the sorority, she met her future husband William (Bill) F. Rigby when he dropped a bowl of oatmeal in her lap. At the time of her passing, they had been married for 63 years.
She was a devoted wife and mother. While Bill was the ever present face to the Idaho Falls community, Jeanne managed the household, attended many events and had a strong influence on Bill's support of the Arts.
She loved history, golf, bridge, beautiful things, and listening to Billy Holiday and Andrea Bocelli. Her children have fond memories of spending time with her searching for asparagus on the ditch banks near Rexburg, huckleberry picking at Palisades, her three egg omelets for her dog Irma, caddying for her golf tournaments, and playing Lewis and Clark while boating on the north fork of the Snake River. Jeanne was also an excellent cook and her family will miss her delicious pies. Her mother's family's favorite pastime was playing progressive rummy, a card game that she played with her family, children and grandchildren throughout her life.
She and Bill loved to travel. Some of her favorite trips included visiting East Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall, attending Christmas Midnight Mass at the Vatican, listening to concerts in the cathedrals of Prague and Florence, and exploring the ruins of Egypt and Turkey.
Jeanne was loved and will be deeply missed by her family. She is survived by her husband William (Bill) F. Rigby; her children John (Katie) Rigby, Lynne Rigby (Matt Muldoon), Kathryn Robertson, and Diane (Charles) Kiehn. Her grandchildren, who fondly called her "Grandy" include Will and Thomas Rigby of Boise ID, Ellie and Conor Muldoon of Redmond, WA, Jennifer von der Gruen of Austin, TX, Emily Robertson of D.C., Joseph Robertson of Tampa, FL, Kyle and Andrew Kiehn of Bozeman,MT; her great grandchild Evan von der Gruen of Austin, TX; Her sister Sharon (Lavar) Grover of Eagle, Idaho and her sister-in-law Mary Lou DeMott of Idaho Falls.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her father Joseph DeMott, her mother Afton Blackburn DeMott and her brother William J. DeMott.
