Jerry Wayne Shoup, 82, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at his home. He was under the care of his family and Encompass Hospice.
Jerry was born on May 13, 1938, in Fairfield, California, the youngest son to John Floyd Shoup and Blanch Myrtle Chandler Shoup. He grew up in California and attended Whittier High School. After earning his GED he attended Morehead State College in Kentucky where he earned a degree in Electronics.
On November 30, 1956, he joined the United States Coast Guard where he served for 21 years, retiring as a Chief Boatswain's Mate. During his time in service, he lived in Texas, California, and Ohio.
He married Norma Jean Lorain and they were later divorced. On December 9, 1976, he married Toni Jill Wicker Toeppe in Toledo, Ohio.
After retirement from the Coast Guard, they lived in Kentucky, Florida, Alaska, and finally settled in Idaho Falls.
Jerry was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed serving his neighbors whenever they needed help. He was a jack of all trades, a carpenter, mechanic, plumber, electrician, and painter. He was a loyal husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Toni Shoup, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; his daughter, Juanita Gillespie of Idaho Falls, Idaho; his son, Richard (Sherry) Toeppe of Columbus, Ohio; his daughter, Michal (Michael) Bergland of Youngstown, Florida; his grandson, Adam Shoup of Youngstown, Florida; grandson, William Toeppe of Findlay, Ohio; granddaughter, Ryanne (Sean) Toeppe of Florida; granddaughter, Whitney (Clayton) Yeaglar of Youngstown, Florida; grandson, Bryce (Cassandra) Gillespie of Idaho Falls, Idaho; grandson, Ty Gillespie of Tacoma, Washington; granddaughter, Courtney Bergland of Youngstown, Florida; grandson, Corey Gillespie of Idaho Falls, Idaho; grandson, Kyle Gillespie of Idaho Falls, Idaho; grandson, Cody Shoup; and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mom, Blanche Chandler; his father, John Floyd Shoup; his daughter, Vicki Renee Shoup; his son, Jerry Wayne Shoup Jr.; 2 sisters, Geneva and Joan; and a brother, John Shoup.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 4, 2021, at Sunnyside Ward, 3721 Shadow Mountain Trail with Bishop Ryan Storms officiating.
