She was born June 23, 1918, in Barney, Arkansas, to Mary Ann and Rufus B. Tyler. She was the 10th of a large family of 12 children.
She spent her early years in Arkansas and Arizona and later mover to Twin Falls, Idaho, where she graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1935.
She received her nurses training at the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Hospital, and graduated as an R.N. in 1940.
She married R. Dale Parker on August 26, 1940, in the Salt Lake L.D.S. temple. After their marriage, they made their home in Idaho Falls and raised three daughters, Kathleen, Hazel, and Lynne.
Jewel worked at the former Sacred Heart Hospital in Idaho Falls for J.D. Davis, M.D., and the Bonneville County Public Health Department.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Relief Society presidency, the Primary presidency, in the stake Sunday School, taught M.I.A. and Relief Society and was a visiting teacher. She also served as an ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. temple.
Her hobbies and interests were reading, sewing, drama, and spending time with her family; she was a generous, caring wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her daughters; Kathleen (Jim, Sr.) Frank of Moses Lake, Washington, Hazel (Bruce) Stanger of Meridian, Idaho, and Lynne (John) Stickley of Idaho Falls; two brothers, Leslie Tyler of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Lloyd Tyler of Walla Walla, Washington; 11 grandchildren, Randy Sorenson (Tammy) , Russ Sorenson, Ron Sorenson (Gina), Brian Stanger (Martha), Trina Frank, Cathy Sue Hayward (Jerry), Nichole Carriger (Steve), Jimmie Frank (Rosa), Aaron Schow (Rosann), Tiniel Williams (Darrec), Thomas Stickley (Kristi); 19 great grandchildren (with 2 more on the way), and 1 great great grandchild (on the way).
She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Dale Parker, her parents, seven sisters, and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the Kearney LDS 3rd Ward Chapel, 1860 Kearney, Idaho Falls with Bishop Kurt Johnson offciating. The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2008 at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. Idaho Falls, and from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
