Henry James "Jim" Wartchow, 87, of Idaho Falls, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012, at the Gables in Ammon of cancer. He had been under the care of Creekside Hospice. Jim was born May 17, 1925, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Russell Wartchow and Frances Green Wartchow. He grew up in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. Jim served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942-1946. He was stationed in San Diego and then overseas to the Philippines. He returned to Idaho Falls and met a beautiful girl, Beverly Vissing. They were married on April 30, 1950, in Idaho Falls. Jim drove truck for Challenge Dairy, Eddy's Bread, and Consolidated Freightways. He also worked for Fleur Corporation at the INEL site. In 1967, they moved to Howe, where they purchased and remodeled the Howe Cash Store and renamed it "Jim's Little Lost Store". What great times they had and great friendships made in the Little Lost River Valley! They decided to sell the store in 1973 to pursue another dream. They moved to Trout Creek, Montana, where they built a motel along the banks of the Trout Creek, Reservoir. In 1975, they moved back to Idaho Falls where he started another business installing free standing fireplaces and doing beautiful stone work in homes throughout the area. Jim retired and moved to Iona, spending the winters in Arizona. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Jim was an avid fisherman and outdoors man and was well known for his beautiful antler carvings. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (John) Cawley; two sons: Brent (Leann) Wartchow and Lance (Karrie) Wartchow all of Idaho Falls; a brother, Bud (Annie) Wartchow of Spokane and a brother, Bob (Donna) Wartchow of Idaho Falls; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly in 2007. Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, with Kenny McMurphy officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho honor Guard.
