JoAnn Logan Laing, 68, of Ammon, Idaho died Thursday, May 29, 2014, after an 18-month struggle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Lovell, Wyoming to Joseph and Vesta Logan on July 1, 1945. After graduation from Lovell High School in 1963, she attended Billings Business College for a semester then followed her fiancé to Logan, Utah. She married Richard (Rick) Laing on September 11, 1964 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they returned to Logan to begin their life together. While Rick earned his degree in aeronautics she earned her PHT (Putting Hubby Through) degree from Utah State University by working in the USU Controller's office. After graduation she followed her husband as his career took them to live in many places around the United States. They eventually settled in Idaho Falls in 1986. JoAnn's early desire was to be a wife and homemaker and have a large family since she was 11 years younger than her sister and had been raised alone. She fulfilled that desire and was a dedicated and loving wife, homemaker and mother bearing eight children who in turn blessed her with 33 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren whom she adored. She left a great legacy of love - spending her life in selfless, graceful service to everyone around her. She enjoyed spending time with her family (especially grandkids) camping, painting, sewing, and piano and recently began learning how to play the mandolin. She was always a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings including the president of Relief Society, Young Women and Primary as well as a counselor and a teacher. She and her husband served a two-year mission in Bangkok, Thailand as well as a one-year mission at the LDS Church History Library in Salt Lake City. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband Richard Laing, and children: Eric Laing (Nancy - Idaho Falls), Pollyanne Walker (Eric - Idaho Falls), Dan Laing (Donna - Idaho Falls), Joseph Laing (Heidi - Pleasant View, UT), Kelly Laing (Heather - Silverdale, WA), Johnny Laing (Kindra - Idaho Falls), Clinton Laing (Mylie - Thatcher, UT) and H. Logan Laing (Stacy - Mountain Home, ID) and sisters Betty Boyd (Clay - Pleasant Grove, UT) and Josephine Johnston (Bob - Rialto, CA). Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ammon 23rd LDS Ward, 4030 John Adams Parkway, Ammon, ID. Bishop Chad Murdock will be conducting the funeral service.
