Obituary

Clara Joanna Firth, 78, of Blackfoot and formerly of Thornton, Idaho, died November 7, 2009, at Bingham Memorial Hospital Extended Care Facility. She was born July 28, 1931, in Thornton, the sixth child born to Joseph Burton Firth and Myrtle Roth Morgan Firth. She grew up in Thornton and attended Union School and Madison High School. She graduated with the Class of 1949 as a Valedictorian. She continued her education at Southern Idaho College of Education where she earned a teaching certificate. She taught a combined class of first and second grades in Warrenton, Oregon. For a short time, she worked for J. C. Penney as a "spotter". She moved to Sacramento, California, where she worked in a clerical position for an insurance company before accepting an office position with the California State Highway Department; she later transferred from Sacramento to Los Angeles. In the early 70's, she moved back to Thornton and then later lived in Arco, Jerome, and since 2005, she has lived in Blackfoot. She enjoyed putting picture puzzles together, playing the piano and the organ, knitting, reading, and playing cards. She is survived by the following: sister, Bertha (Clyde) Canady of St. Peters, Missouri; nieces and nephews: Jeanene (Brent) Hensley of Rexburg, Earlene (Kent) Mickelsen of Idaho Falls, Lamont Firth of St. Anthony, Kenneth Firth of Rexburg, Dorothy Ann (Joe) Kennedy of Idaho Falls, Stephen (Maria) Perry of Salt Lake City, Utah, Betty Jo (Leo) Sharp of Payson, Utah, Patricia (Phillip) Loutzenhiser and Monica (Daniel) Koenig both of St. Peters, Missouri; sister-in-law, Nina Firth and brother-in-law, Dean Perry both of Rexburg; and several grand nieces and grand nephews. She was preceded in death by a half-brother, Ivan S. Morgan, an infant sister, a sister, Ruth J. Perry; brothers: William "Bill" Kendell Firth and Lorenzo "Low" Thomas Firth and a niece, Mary Alice Blackham. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 12, 2009, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the services at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery in Archer, Idaho.
