John Cyronek was born in Omaha, Nebraska and raised in a two room cabin, with 9 other siblings, in the Northern Minnesota town of Blackberry. When the family lost the farm, like so many families in the 30's, they moved back to Omaha.
He served his country during the Second World War in the U.S. Navy and received the Purple Heart when his ship was attacked in the South Pacific. He is a Lifetime member of the VFW. After the war he married Janet Bena of Omaha and moved to Sioux Falls. John and Janet enjoyed 49 years together; and raised two sons, John G. and Jeffrey. Janet passed away in 1995.
John "Big John" Cyronek worked for Dockendorf Equipment Company, of Sioux Falls, for 35 years. He retired in 1982. He was a lifetime member of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Union Local 587.
John was loved by all who met him. He loved his family, his work, his friends, his fishing and always had time for a good laugh. He was a good guy and will be missed.
He is survived by his two sons, John G. Cyronek and his wife, Susan, of Idaho Falls, ID. Their children: Jessica Burns, husband Anthony and great grandson, Andrew, Boston, MA, Tiffany, Denver, CO and Gregory Thomas who lives in California, and his son, Jeffrey and his partner, Thom Blahnik, Jersey City, NJ. His sisters Bessie Balus, Omaha, NE, Ceil Bertolotti, Groveland, CA and Helen Lundy, Madras, OR, and his brother, Anthony Cyronek, Omaha, NE.
Friends can visit the family at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, on Friday between 6 and 8 PM. Funeral services will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church at 2 PM on Saturday. With burial to follow in Hills of Rest Memorial Park, Sioux Falls. Military Honors by the American Legion. Local Arrangements are under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary in Idaho Falls.
