Obituary

John William "Jack" Heward, 81, of Idaho Falls, died July 12, 2009, at his home.

He was born on June 11, 1928, in Victor, Idaho, to T. William Heward and Verna Archilbald Heward. He graduated from Teton High School and The Idaho Barber College in Boise.

On March 6, 1948, he married his high school sweetheart, Violet Griggs.

Jack began his career in Jackson, Wyoming. He moved to Idaho Falls to work with his brother-in-law at the Rogers Hotel Barber Shop. He later moved his business to the Westbank Barber Shop. Jack was a well known bartender at the Westbank and the Stardust. Prior to his retirement, he sold cars at many different dealerships throughout southeastern Idaho.

Jack was involved with many community activities. He was a Charter member of the Sports Round Table, a Scoutmaster in the Idaho Falls LDS 15th Ward, a member of Idaho Falls Elks Lodge #1087, and the Idaho Falls Eagles Lodge #576. For many years, Jack and Violet were members of the Promenaders Square Dance Club. Jack devoted many hours volunteering with these organizations to help make our community a better place. Jack enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting and telling a good joke.

He is survived by his wife, Violet Heward of Idaho Falls; son: John William "Bill" Heward Jr. of Indianola, Iowa; daughter, Jodi Hess of Nampa, ID; son, Jim (Sheila) Heward of Modesto, CA; daughter, Jill (Bob) Hunter of Auburn, GA; daughter, Jerelyn (Will) Hodges of St. Paul, MN;grandchildren: Joshua Heward of Indianoa; IA; Emily Shindurling (Robert) Judy of Nampa; R. G. Hess of Ivins, UT; Raine Hunter of Auburn, GA; Cody and Jaqlyn Ivie of Coeur d'Alene, ID;Whitney and Lauren Hodges of St. Paul, MN; a great-grandson, Landon Judy of Nampa, ID; and a sister, Ruth (Lynn) Kearsley of Idaho Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elise Jacobs; and a brother, Glenn Heward.

The family would like to thank Aspen Home Health and Hospice for their loving care of Jack.

At his request, Jack was cremated and there will be a family memorial at a later date. Cremation was under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls.
