Obituary

John (Jack) Ross Sanders was born on February 7, 1931 in the 5th Avenue Hospital in New York City, New York. He was born to O. Leroy Sanders and Ermon Jeannette Ross. He moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1945 at the age of 14. Jack loved growing up in New York, but adjusted quickly to his family's move to Utah. A crew cut, a spot on the basketball team and a group of wonderful friends that he kept in touch with all of his life, made his high school years at East High memorable. He graduated in 1948 and enrolled at the University of Utah on scholarship where he courted his sweetheart, Rubeine Case. Shortly after their engagement, he went on a two year LDS mission to Hawaii. He became part Polynesian and enjoyed a love of the Islands for the rest of his life. Rubeine worked and saved while he was gone and at the end of his mission, they were married on October 11, 1952 in the Hawaii, Laie Temple. Shortly after he married, Jack began his career at the INL at the Chem Plant. He later returned to the University of Utah and received his bachelor's degree in 1960. After graduation, he began a long career with DOE as a nuclear physicist. He took advantage of educational opportunities and in the spring of 1963 received a Masters equivalent at ORSORT in Oak Ridge Tennessee, graduating 1st in his class. Jack loved the outdoors and all sports. He followed BYU and left a list of upcoming games on his computer desk. He spent many years officiating games in this area and was known for his fair and unbiased work. He often took his daughters camping and fishing and made many wonderful family vacation memories. He loved to travel with Rubeine and together they saw the world. They enjoyed the association of great friends who came together the first year they moved to Idaho. Jack and Rubeine supported the Arts in Idaho Falls and especially enjoyed performances by their children and grandchildren. Jack had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He will always be remembered for his positive attitude of gratitude. He served in various young men and scouting positions. He spent many years organizing the 21st ward food both at the Eastern Idaho State Fair. He served on the High Council and in the Bishopric as the executive secretary. He was known throughout his life as a teacher. He spent many hours preparing Gospel Doctrine, Study Club and High Priest Group lessons. Jack's family is grateful for the life he led and the example he set. He is survived by his sister, Marilyn (David) Gilchrist, daughters: Leilani (Tim) Bronson, Moana (Paul) DiFrancesco, Laurene (Roger) Jackson and Lynnel (Richard) Eads, 18 grandchildren, their spouses, and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, and a brother, Fred Sanders. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 16th, 2010, at the Idaho Falls Stake Center, 1155 First Street. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary.
