Obituary

John Raymond Taylor, 85, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2015, at his home under the care of his family and Hands of Hope Home Health and Hospice. John was born in Mason City, Nebraska to Ray B. and Addie Wright Taylor on March 13, 1930. He attended Mason City School and graduated at the age of 17. John worked at the blacksmith shop owned by his father, at age 10, HIS WORK WAS GUARANTEED BY HIS FATHER. He was drafted into the army and sent to Ft. Belvoir, Virginia and then to Korea. While in Korea he was in maintenance attached to the Air Force in the SCARWAFF division. John was awarded the National Defense medal, the Korean Service medal with two stars, Efficiency Home and Fidelity medals and the Korean medal from the Korean government. When discharged, he went to Omaha and worked for Fruehoff welding. He worked at Idaho Welding and for himself until his health failed. He met his future wife, Roberta DeWald, from Falls City, Nebraska through mutual friends. They were married on June 19, 1953, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in Broken Bow, Nebraska. They made their home in Mason City, where all four of their children were born, Teresa, John D., Barbara and Mark. He was a member of the American Legion, a Life Time member of the VFW and was elected two terms as Commander of the VFW. John is survived by his wife, Roberta, his daughter Barbara Taylor, his son, John (Anita) Taylor, all of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and his daughter in law, Patricia Taylor, of Aloha, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa; his son, Mark; his sister, Gretchen and her husband Harry Boyles; his brother, Arnold and his wife Dorothy Taylor and his parents.
