John Leroy Staggie, 85, of Idaho Falls, died Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

He was born on August 1, 1931, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to William Leroy and Jane Ann Staggie. He grew up in the Idaho Falls area.

John served in the United States Navy. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Services Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

On December 26, 1951, he married Blanche Mary Allen. Blanche passed away on February 20, 2000. He was previously married to Louise McKribben, they divorced in 1949.

John enjoyed all outdoor activities: fishing, hunting, golfing and trap shooting were just among the few of his favorites.

He was always strong and full of life. His children say they don't make them like him anymore.

He is survived by his children: Sammette (George) Sandoval, of Idaho Falls, ID, Vickie (Gary) Anderson, of Chandler, AZ and Alan Leroy Staggie, of Idaho Falls, ID; his sister, Alta (Larry) Simmons, of Island Park and Texas; his brother, Robert Staggie, of Idaho Falls, ID; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Blanche; his daughter, Loretta Jane Shawcroft; his brothers: Richard, David, Bill, James and Stephen; his sisters: Carol Ann Staggie and Wilma Dumont.

We thank the entire nursing staff on the 5th floor at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for their compassionate and excellent care of our dad.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, ID. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
