Obituary

John Arden Waters "Pete", 83 years old, of Idaho Falls, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012, at home surrounded by his family. We are mourning the loss of our beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother, uncle and friend. John was born April 28, 1929 in Pocatello, Idaho to Cecil and Chloe Waters. He was the third of five children. John graduated from Moore High School in 1946. He went to business school for two years. He was a licensed barber. Pete met his sweetheart, Beryl V. Blattner in Arco, Idaho, and married her on September 24, 1950 in Elko, Nevada. February 1951, he was inducted into the US Army during the Korean War. He made the rank of Sergeant within three months. Pete and Beryl were blessed with three children; Connie (Erik) Strom, John Lynn Waters, and Chuck (Suzie) Waters, all of Idaho Falls. Together they have ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one grandchild on the way. John worked for Morrison Knudsen, Westinghouse, on the Nautilus submarine and other various contractors at the INEL until 1962. At that time, with his brother, Donald and cousin, Ross Waters, started their own business, Waters Asbestos and Supply. He retired in 1986 and spent time in Lake Havasu City, Arizona and Pahrump, Nevada. John helped found, with four others, Five Way Sports of Idaho Falls during the early 70s selling and modifying the snowmobiles he so enjoyed. He developed an adjustable ignition system with Frank Just for snowmobiles to improve performance in the company N-Wire. John was always looking for ways to enhance the performance of his sleds and could hang with the boys even into his 80s. He was ever the innovator, inventor and entrepreneur. He could charge the grandkid's batteries in ten seconds. John loved to golf and bowl. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and Veterans of Foreign Wars. John loved snowmobiling, boating, water and snow skiing, camping, hunting and fishing. He harvested trophy animals and fish all over North America. John was preceded in death by his an infant brother, Cecil Jr, his sister Cora Jean Curtis, and his parents, Cecil and Chloe. He is survived by Beryl, his wife of 62 years, brother Donald E. Waters, brother Ronald B. Waters, his children Connie, Lynn and Chuck. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2012, and one hour prior to the services, both at Coltrin Mortuary.
