Jose Hernandez Alvarez, 88, of Idaho Falls, passed away Friday, September 29, 2023, at Eagle Rock Health and Rehabilitation of Cascadia. He was under the care of Aspen Hospice.

Jose was born on July 8, 1935, in Thermal, California to Guadalupe Alvarez and Angelita Hernandez. He grew up in Michoacan, Mexico. He married his wife Silvina, in in Mexico. Silvina passed away in 1989. Jose worked in landscaping and concrete, and he enjoyed working in his garden. He was a member of the Apostolic Church in California.

Jose is survived by his son, Jose D. Alvarez of Idaho Falls, Idaho; his daughters: Nancy Alvarez of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Maria Guadalupe Alvarez Yanez of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Ana-Maria Alvarez of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Yolonda Alvarez-Yanez of Shelley, Idaho, Gloria Alvarez-Guzman of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Josefina Alvarez of Coachella, California, and Martha Meza-Alvarez of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 27 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Silvina Yanez de-Alvarez; his father, Guadalupe Alvarez; his mother, Angelita Hernandez; his brothers: Miguel Hernandez Alvarez and Jesus Alvarez; and his sister, Lupita Alvarez.

Services will be held at a later date in California. Local arrangements are under the care of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls.
