Joseph Vincent Burch, 76, of Shelley, died Thursday, November 2, 2017, at his home after a valiant fight against cancer, surrounded by his family. He was under the care of OneSource Hospice.

Joe was born on July 6, 1941, to Jesse Burch and Lillian Donsbach Burch, in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in Culver City, California and Arco, Idaho. He graduated from Arco High School in 1958.

He joined the United States Army on November 17, 1959, and was honorably discharged on February 15, 1962.

He married Mary Ann Ockerman, and they were later divorced. On October 2, 2002, he married Kyle Coates in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Joe worked at the Idaho National Laboratory for 39 years in the mail room, then as a security guard and finally was an engineering technician, when he retired in 2001.

He loved camping, fishing and boating. He loved his whole family with all his heart. He enjoyed cooking and feeding everybody. He was an incredibly generous soul, and will be terrible missed by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Kyle Coates Burch of Shelley, Idaho; his children: Trisha (Daryl) Arave, Cheri (Travis) Arnold and Clinton Burch all of Firth, Idaho; his step-children: Nickey (Shane) Lawson of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Damion (Ryan) Welch of Farmington, Utah, Travis Messick of Ucon, Idaho; his sisters: Emma Lu (Ray) Hendricks of South Lake Tahoe, California and Mary (Mel) Larson of Waldport, Oregon; his brother, Jerry (Nan) Burch of Fairfield, California; 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Lillian Donsbach Burch and Jesse Burch Sr.; his son, Russell Earl Burch; his brothers: Jesse Burch Jr., Edward Burch and James Burch; his sister, Henrietta Martino.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls. A celebration of life will be held from 4-10:00 p.m., Saturday, November 11, 2017, at the Pratt Barn, 649 North Highway 91, Firth, Idaho.
