Obituary

Joseph Mark Harding, beloved father, son, and friend, passed away in Idaho Falls on May 31, 2024, at the age of 48.

Joe was born on September 15, 1975, in Malad, Idaho, the sixth child of Janet Riggle Harding and Don Lewis Harding. Growing up in Soda Springs, Idaho, Joe embraced life with a passion for sports and community. He excelled in football and wrestling, becoming a state champion in his wrestling weight class and an all-state linebacker and running back on the football field.  Beloved by all who knew him, Joe was also chosen by his peers at SSHS as prom king and student body president.

Beyond sports, Joe found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He relished moments spent hunting, fishing, and playing golf, finding solace and camaraderie in the great outdoors.

His dedication and talent were evident not only in his achievements but also in his commitment to service.  After graduating in 1994, Joe embarked on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Kentucky Louisville Mission, where he touched many lives with his kindness and faith. Following his mission, Joe continued to pursue his love for football, playing at Ricks College. Later, he furthered his education at Idaho State, Dixie State, and Seton Hall.

On February 5, 1999, Joe married Dani Gates, in Manti, Utah, beginning a journey of love and partnership that would span over two decades. Together, they welcomed five beautiful children into their family: Dexter, Devyn, Kamryn, Magdalyn, and Alexandria. Though Joe and Dani later separated, Joe's greatest joys were always found in the moments shared with his family, watching his children grow.

Though Joe pointed out most of his college studies and a few years after school working in the hospital administration field, his true passion was building businesses and buying real estate.  He spent a lot of time being his own boss in multiple endeavors.

Joe will be remembered for his generous heart and his infectious laughter. He had a gift for bringing joy to others and could always be counted on for a good laugh or a helping hand. Though he faced his own battles, Joe's heart was always pointed toward his kids and his friends.

In addition to his children and daughter-in-law (Emmalee), Joe is survived by his mother Janet Harding, and his siblings: Suzanne (Dirk) Jeffs, Don (Julie) Harding, Stephen Harding, Katie (Scott) Muir, Jennifer (Uli) Stengele, Michael (Christina) Harding, Hayley (Jeff) Lowry, and Cody (Meagan) Harding.

In the wake of his passing, Joe leaves behind many who are saddened by his loss but grateful for the indelible impression he left on their lives.

Rest in peace, big Joe.  You will be missed, but we will see you again.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held at noon, Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Riverside Ward Bldg., 225 Oakwood Dr. Pocatello, ID. The interment will be at 3:30 p.m., Friday at the Malad City Cemetery under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls.
