Obituary

Wilma Joyce Johnson, 81, of Ammon, passed away on November 25, 2020.  She was under the care of the caring folks of Hands of Hope Hospice and the comforting facility, The Gables, of Idaho Falls, ID.

Joyce was born January 19, 1939, in Teton City, Idaho in a horrible snowstorm, to Wilma Minnie Black and Marion Sinclair Johnston.  She grew up in Teton, Idaho and went to school in Teton, and graduated from South Fremont High.  She was gifted and participated as the Class reporter, played on the Basketball team, and played the clarinet in the pep-band.

She was all things beautiful…in her appearance, her home, and her warm heart.  She studied cosmetology at Excelsis Beauty College in Idaho Falls, Idaho.  She used her good friend Lola Kaye as her model through school.  She was a gifted beautician as she was awarded a first-place award by the Idaho Cosmetology Association.  She ran Joyce's House of Beauty, a hair salon, out of her home for years and made others beautiful as well.

She was warm and loving…she loved animals, flowers, old movies, laughing at Dad's jokes, and shopping with her cousin Elizabeth Case. She loved summers in Island Park as well as winters in Wellton, AZ spent with family.  She was a loving smile and a little giggle to anyone who met her.  She loved her family so very much and enjoyed cooking for them.

She loved her testimony of the Gospel...she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including Relief Society President and her highest role as a Bishop's wife.  She fulfilled each position as a calling.

She was a precious and devoted wife…Marrying Kay Leon Johnson on August 22, 1958, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were blessed with four children: Randy, Kelly, Kristy, and Stacy.  They fulfilled their lifelong dream of designing and building their own home which resided in Jameston, Idaho, where they raised their family. She was "Ruby, my precious gem" to her husband.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Kay Leon Johnson of Ammon, Idaho, Sons Randall (Susan) Johnson of Draper, UT;  Kelly (Kari)Johnson of Boise, ID;  daughters Kristy (Rick) Andrade of Rowlett, TX;  Stacy Yates of Trenton, NJ and her little sister, whom she adored, Diane (Stephen) Wilcken of Rexburg, ID; 12 Grandchildren and 1 Great-Grandchild.  She has another Great-Grandchild coming on February 1 st that she will get to meet before we do.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and Grandsons: Mitchell and Spencer Johnson.

Together in life and death, we will be holding a double service for both Kay and Joyce.  Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a small family & close-friend service will be held at 11:00 a.m., December 12, 2020, at the Stonehaven Ward Chapel, 2055 Coronado Drive, Idaho Falls, with Bishop Mark Taylor officiating.  There will be a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral service. She will be laid to rest in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery, Idaho Falls, ID.
