Joyce was born in Rexburg, Idaho to Leona and Heber Blackburn; the youngest of five children to whom she was close all of their lives. She attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah before marrying Ervin Smith in 1941. They lived in Butte, Montana before settling in Burton, Idaho where they raised their family and took great pride in running a successful farm for many years. She always enjoyed her garden and flowers. Joyce and Ervin wintered in Queen Valley, Arizona for many years, making lots of dear friends and cherished memories. Two of Joyce's favorite pastimes were playing cards, especially Bridge, and golfing. We have lovely memories of good visits starting with "well hello Dear", and recall with fondness her reciting poems and singing favorite songs. Joyce loved to travel and went on some grand trips with her children and grandchildren later in life.
She was preceded in death by all of her siblings, son Drake, husband Ervin, and many dear friends. Joyce will be missed by her son, Boyd, daughter, Nancy, numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service at the Sugar City Cemetery Saturday, May 14th at 1 pm.
Arrangements are under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, ID.
