Obituary

Joye Crandall Washburn, 84, of Idaho Falls, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Lily and Syringa Assisted Living after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.

Joye was born on September 1, 1940, to George and Jean Crandall in Coalville, Utah. She was the youngest of 3 children. As she grew up in Summit County, UT she loved spending time with family in Coalville, Peoa, Kamas, and playing along the Weber River and the Unita mountains. She took great pride in her family and taught her children about their ancestors and where they lived.

Joye married Robert Washburn in Salt Lake City on December 17, 1959.  Joye attended the University of Utah for a year before getting married.  After they got married, they had several moves, and they had a child in each place they lived.  Stephen was born in Stockton, CA.  Leslie was born in Salt Lake City, UT.  Todd was born in Las Vegas, NV.  Lee was born in Idaho Falls, ID.  They were married for 65 years.

After moving to Idaho Falls, they decided to raise their family here.  She excelled as a housewife and a homemaker. She was a great cook. She was always sewing, crocheting, canning, and crafting. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was involved with the Primary and many service activities.  She also enjoyed her bowling league, going to the "Spa", and skiing.  She was also a member of the Homemakers club and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

As the family got older, she became an Avon representative and loved doing that for many years. Those who knew Joye knew she loved to socialize.  She would spend many hours on the phone talking to her friends and most often her sister. So, when she became an Avon rep this allowed her to talk to so many more people and often it was not just about their latest Avon order.

Joye loved spending time at their cabin in Island Park, ID and always said that she bought that with her "Avon money".  She enjoyed traveling,  fishing, floating, and going to plays. She loved hosting family events and enjoyed having everyone get together.  She always had something going on the stove for when unexpected visitors showed up.  She was a great example of serving others by getting involved with many humanitarian projects.

She is survived by her husband, Robert, her four children: Stephen (Wendy) Washburn, Lindon, UT, Leslie (Cliff) Hill, Idaho Falls, ID, Todd (Tami) Washburn, Belgrade, MT, and Lee (Tonya) Washburn, Idaho Falls, ID.  Along with 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Jean Crandall.  Her brother, George Jr. Crandall and her sister, Mary Lou Galligan.

To all those who have served Joye in her final years at Lily and Syringa, including Aspen Hospice, we thank you all so much.
