Obituary

Julia Lee McLaughlin Johnson, 86, Idaho Falls resident, died Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

She was born October 26, 1922, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Benjamin LeRoy McLaughlin and Bessie Augusta Miller McLaughlin. She grew up and attended schools in Pocatello. She received her nurse's training in Idaho Falls and was in the Cadet Nurses' Corp from 1942 until the end of the war.

On May 8, 1946, she married Orville Sherwood Johnson in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

Julia was a highly admired and qualified obstetrics nurse for over 25 years. Many new mothers named their baby daughters "Julia" after her. She was a compassionate and caring nurse that fought hard for her patients.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held callings both in the ward and stake Primary, Relief Society, Young Women's and the scouts. She made 100's of dresses for the humanitarian services.

She enjoyed needlework, reading, making quilts, doll making, puzzles, and sharing her artistic talents with others.

She loved her church, family, home and grandchildren with her whole heart and soul.

Through many struggles in the last few years, Julia remained valiant and fought a very good fight.

She is survived by her husband, O. Sherwood Johnson of Idaho Falls; daughters: Carollyn (Mike) Hubicz of Orangeville, Ohio; Maureen (David) Daw of Osgood, Idaho; Lorraine (Kenneth) Crossley of Spanish Fork, Utah; sons: Mark (Becky) Johnson of Idaho Falls and Dale (Trinett) Johnson of Ammon, Idaho; sisters: Maxine McDonald of Palo Alto, California, and Genevieve Ison of Boise, Idaho; a brother, Benjamin McLaughlin of Sacramento, California; 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services are at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, at the Idaho Falls LDS 18th Ward Chapel, 1200 Dunbar Dr. Idaho Falls, with Bishop Cloyd Jones officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday evening, April 29, 2009, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, and at the church one hour prior to the services.
