Julian Gardner Cowley, 92, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away on September 2, 2024, at his home of natural causes.
Julian was born in Venice, Utah on May 1, 1932. He was the 7th son of Charles William and Leah Gardner Cowley. Julian attended Richfield High School in Richfield, Utah, and graduated in the spring of 1951.
Julian was drafted into the United States Army on January 29, 1952, and served in the 26th Infantry Regiment 1st Division stationed in Bomberg, Germany during the Korean War. He was transferred to inactive reserves and came home on December 31, 1953. He was discharged from the military reserves on January 28, 1960.
Julian married Doree (Sally) Bell of Richfield, Utah in the Manti, Utah LDS Temple on September 17, 1954. They were blessed with six children: Dirk (Wendy) Cowley, April Leah Cowley, John (Diana) Cowley, Patricia (Patsy) Ann Cowley, Mark (Lisa) Cowley, and Andrew (Kelly) Johnson-Cowley.
Julian graduated with a degree in accounting from Stevens-Henager College in 1956 and worked in the banking industry in Utah and Idaho. He retired from the workforce in 1998 as President and CEO of The Bank of Commerce in Idaho Falls. After retiring, Julian served on the Board of Directors for The Bank of Commerce for ten years.
Following Sally's death on July 31, 1991, Julian married Deanna Stetzner Walters of Anaconda, Montana in Idaho Falls, Idaho on May 7, 1994, and became stepfather to Tom Walters and Ben (Juliana) Walters.
Julian was preceded in death by his mother and father and brothers Phil, Richard, Tony, Robert, Sharon, and Charles. His wives, Doree (Sally) and Deanna, daughters April and Patricia (Patsy), stepson Stan Walters, first-born grandson Spence Cowley and granddaughter Shasta Cowley also preceded him in death. He is survived by his older brother Dean Cowley, younger sister Leanna Jensen, 4 sons, 2 stepsons, and many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A local visitation will be held from 6:30-8:00 p.m., September 11, 2024, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., September 14, 2024, at the Richfield City Cemetery in Richfield, UT, where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved Sally and daughter Patricia (Patsy).
