Obituary

Justin Alma "Al" Knapp, 91, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his family. Al was born on April 12, 1923, in Hibbard, Idaho, to Justin Willis and Mabel Hale Knapp. He spent his growing up years in Hibbard, Goshen, Island Park and Idaho Falls, He attended Idaho Falls High School and graduated at the age of 16. Al attended Ricks College and Idaho State University. He joined the U.S. Air Force, and served as a turret gunner in World War II. On February 27, 1946, He married his true love, Lois Call, in the Idaho Falls Temple. Lois died on August 4, 1997. Together they built the six homes they lived in. They had 4 daughters and 2 sons. He worked as a carpenter, school bus driver and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Al was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Scout master, Elder's Quorum President, a member of several bishoprics, served for many years as an officiator and sealer in the Idaho Falls Temple. He was happiest when fishing, riding his horses, playing pool, serving in the temple, or spending time with his family. He is survived by his daughters; Ann (Rex) Coleman, of Terreton, Idaho Kaye (Gordon) Hales, of Idaho Falls, Idaho;Karla ( Arlen) Oswald, of Rigby, Idaho;JoLyn Knapp, of Idaho Falls, Idaho;his sons; Doug (Janet) Knapp, serving a mission in Argentina;Alan (Ellen) Knapp, of Idaho Falls, Idaho;his sister, Anna Yorgensen, of Homedale, Idaho;his brother, Bernard E. (Louise) Knapp, Of Provo, Utah;20 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, his parents and six siblings. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at the Willow Creek LDS Chapel, 6925 N 15 E, Idaho Falls. Bishop Jason D. Hales will be officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2015 at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans.
