Obituary

Kandi Lee Butler, 56, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away August 30, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by her family after a long health battle. She was under the care of the University of Utah's Hospice Services.

Kandi was born on August 16, 1969, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Ronnie Kenneth Butler and Linda Jo Johnson.

She grew up in Shelley, Idaho, where she attended school and graduated from Shelley High School in 1987.

On June 17, 1988, she married her best friend, Todd Eugene Shirley, in Shelley, Idaho. They were blessed with two children, Kenny and Shauny. They later divorced. She married James "Jim" Andrew Worden, and they also later divorced.

Kandi worked at multiple banks in her teens to early 20s but left those to stay at home with her children. In her last couple of years of life, she worked for A & C Transport with her Cousin, Amanda. She loved her job and the people she met along the way.

Kandi enjoyed crocheting, puzzles, crafting, and diamond art. She also loved the outdoors and camping with her family. Some of her most cherished memories were spent camping with her kids in Spencer and staying at the family cabin in Island Park when she was younger. Kandi was a wild soul at heart and always the life of the party.

Kandi was formally a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but in 2022, she became a born-again Christian and attended Watersprings Church in Idaho Falls.

Kandi is survived by her loving son, Kenny (Sam) Shirley of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and her daughter, Shauny (Brian) Permann of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and her 10 grandchildren: William, Olivia, Karyna, Dominick, Boston, Remmington, Clara, Timberley, Kimber, and Kenzley.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Linda Jo Firkins; and her fathers: Ronnie Kenneth Butler and Elvin Lee Firkins. Her grandparents: Kenneth and Versal Butler and Leland and Mary Lou Johnson; her brother, Ron Butler; two cousins: Heather June Reeder and Amanda Dee Wright; and many other beloved family members and friends.

Per Kandi's wishes, there will not be a formal funeral or celebration of life. The family will celebrate Kandi in their own creative way at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
