Karel Lane Smith, 81, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Life Care Center.

Karel was born on April 15, 1940, in Lawton, Oklahoma to Howard Carter and Vivian Shirley Carter. She was born into the Caddo Indian tribe and grew up in Anadarko, Oklahoma.

On January 17, 1958, she married Jimmie Lee Smith. To this union, 3 children were born: Phillip, Jim, and Scott. Jimmie passed away in 2016.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was a lady of strong faith and beliefs. She was loved and cared for by many.

She is survived by her children: Phillip Smith and his wife Vivian Gray of Vancouver, WA, and Jim Smith of Texas; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and her extended family at Life Care.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Smith; her son, Scott Smith; her parents: Vivian and Howard Carter.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls.
