Karla Loertscher Cannon,79, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Karla was born August 3, 1936, in Park City, Utah to David W. and Maurine Vickers Loertscher, the second child in the family. She was a darling little girl, loved and welcomed into the family. At the age of three, she became very ill. She had a high fever, and had seizures for many hours. Antibiotics weren't available at that time. When she recovered from that illness, she began having seizures, and was diagnosed with epilepsy, a condition which affected her the rest of her life. She attended schools in Park City and graduated from Park City High School. She spent her days helping her mother cook for the crews on the farm. Her grandmother taught her how to knit. She learned how to knit lacenow a lost art. She was faithful in the gospel and had a testimony, and always wanted to share that with others. As a mature woman she longed for marriage. She faithfully prayed for this blessing. She had a childlike faith, that her prayers would be answered. She met Earl Cannon at one of the singles dances held in Idaho Falls. Earl was also looking for someone to marry. He started going to the dances, saying I'm going to Idaho Falls and find me a wife. They had a sweet courtship, and were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on December 27, 1977. As they began their married life together, they lived in Arco, Montpelier and Dubois, where Earl worked for the railroad. Karla and Earl were always faithful in reading their scriptures. Karla taught Earl how to read, and they read daily. They also served in church positions, nursery, visiting teaching. Karla wrote letters and Christmas cards to all friends. She always expressed her love and her simple faith and her testimony. She has spent the last few years of her life at Good Samaritan Nursing home, where she has been tended faithfully by Earl, who has shown love and caring through her last difficult years. She knew that she would return home to Heavenly Father, to be reunited with her parents, and her older brother Dwain, with her spirit restored to health and mental acuity. She is survived by her husband Earl G. Cannon, her brothers David V. Loertscher and Thomas F. Loertscher and many nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 2, 2015, at the Ammon LDS 10th Ward, 4375 East Sunnyside. The family will visit with friends from 6-7:30 p.m., Sunday, November 1, 2015, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be at the Ammon Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
