Kathleen Lloyd Gauchay, 60, was surrounded by family as she returned home to her Heavenly Father in the early morning hours of August 5, 2010. Cancer claimed her body, but it could never mar her spirit. The oldest of five children, she was born in Salt Lake City on April 17, 1950, to Mary Lou Farr Lloyd and Grant S. Lloyd. She grew up in Kaysville, Utah, on Just-A-Mere Farm, picking cherries alongside her siblings until her father turned the orchard into Cherry Hill Resort. After graduating from Davis High School, Kathleen attended Brigham Young University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in social work. On January 13, 1978, she married Kent Gauchay for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Kathleen was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Armed with a firm testimony of the gospel's truths, she served diligently in Relief Society, Young Women, Primary, and most recently as a missionary in the LDS Addiction Recovery Program. One of Kathleen's favorite and most frequent date nights was spending Friday evening in the Idaho Falls Temple with her husband. Her greatest joy was her family. She gave birth to three daughters, teaching them and many others through her can-do attitude and unconditional love. She enjoyed being with her family in the outdoors, traveling, and visiting her daughters and grandchildren. Kathleen also endured many trials, including a battle with epilepsy since age five, but a word of complaint never escaped her lips. Her example was a pillar of strength, courage, and faith to her family. She will be dearly missed and always remembered. Kathleen is survived by her husband, Kent; daughters, Lisa Gauchay of Salt Lake City, Jill (Alex) Curry of Sacramento, and Collette (Rick) Webster of Phoenix; grandchildren, Tyler, Abigail, Logan, Benjamin, and Carson; siblings Scott (Marilyn) Lloyd, Bruce (Debbie) Lloyd, Keith (Tammy) Lloyd, and Carol (Blair) Barton, all of Kaysville; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sister-in-law and dear friend, Vicki Smith Gauchay. The family extends a special thanks to the physicians, nurses, and others at the Huntsman Cancer Institute for their kindness and skill in caring for Kathleen. Likewise, gratitude goes to Creekside Home Health & Hospice, and particularly Jenessa, for making Kathleen's final weeks as comfortable as possible. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at the LDS Lincoln 2nd Ward, 3700 East Lincoln Road in Idaho Falls, with Bishop Derick Attebury officiating. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, as well as one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Interment will be at the Ammon Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
