Obituary

Doyle Keith Metcalf, 90, of Ammon, died Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of causes incident to age and congestive heart failure. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Keith was born July 24, 1927, in Ucon, Idaho, to Agnes Smith and Carl Russell Metcalf. He attended Ricks College in Rexburg.

On May 28, 1949 he married Ruth Storer of Idaho Falls. Their children are Linda Ruth Metcalf, Matthew Carl Metcalf, and Julie Marie (Kenyon) Wold, all of Idaho Falls, and Allan K. (Ronda) Metcalf of Spanish Fork, Utah. His grandchildren are Nicholas Metcalf Wold of Boise, Katelyn Marie Metcalf of Flagstaff, AZ, Joseph Kenyon (Jordyn) Wold of Idaho Falls, Anna Ruth Metcalf of Salt Lake City, UT, and Samuel Woodrow Wold of Boise.

He began his career working as a Field Officer at California Pack in Idaho Falls. He later began work at the Atomic Energy Commission at Arco, ID as a draftsman, taking night classes and working his way up the ladder. He retired from the Idaho Nuclear Lab as an engineer in 1993.

In his spare time, he also worked drafting house plans for many people in the area, eventually designing and helping to build the family home.

Keith enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping golf, reading and spending time with his family. He and Ruth enjoyed traveling in many western states, and spent a lot of time during the summers at their property in Island Park. He also enjoyed writing and wrote and published two books: "Harvey", and a book of cowboy poetry, "Wrangler Rhymes".

He was preceded in death by his brothers Farrell Metcalf and Darwin Metcalf, a sister, Valeen Metcalf, and three sisters-in-law.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Ruth of Idaho Falls, his children and grandchildren, a brother, Verl Metcalf, sister Valerie (James) Montgomery, both of Idaho Falls, and sister Sharon (Jerry) Hjelm of Blackfoot.

Keith loved to stay busy and to spend time with family. He lived his life with integrity, hard work and honesty, always giving people the benefit of the doubt. He loved his family and we loved him very much.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, April 13, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. Dedication of the gravesite will follow at the Ammon Cemetery, 5226 E. Sunnyside Road, (North side), Idaho Falls. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.coltrinmortuary.com .
