Kenneth Edgar Fillmore, 81, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from many years of pain and illness associated with his diabetes. He was under the care of Brio Home Health and Hospice.
Kenny (Ken) was born on May 21, 1942, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Kenneth Ray Fillmore and Gwen Rachel Berrett Fillmore. He grew up in Idaho Falls, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1960.
In high school his passion was sports. His favorite sport to play was football. He also played basketball and ran track. When he was a senior, his team won the state championship title game. After high school he attended Utah State, Ricks, and BYU, excelling on the football field, basketball court, and track field. He graduated from Ricks and BYU. He was athletically gifted. He often commented on how grateful he was for his athletic abilities and wondered why he was blessed with those gifts.
On July 23, 1959, he married Sharon Harries in Idaho Falls. They are the parents of 7 children. They were later divorced.
Ken worked for neighborhood farmers, Del Monte, a salesman, and was a teacher and a coach at Sugar Salem High School. He loved coaching. In his first year of coaching at Sugar Salem, his basketball team won the State Championships game, in February 1973. This past February he was honored at a 50th reunion with the men from that team. Ken loved to share experiences playing sports and coaching sports.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings. He most enjoyed coaching several young men's basketball teams over the years. Ken enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play in their own individual sports. He loved spending time with family, camping, hiking, and fishing. He was a gentleman farmer with a few animals around, which gave his children opportunities to help him.
On November 15, 2019, Ken married Deanne Kelly. Ken and Deanne enjoyed a sweet relationship. Deanne passed away on May 2, 2022.
Ken is survived by his children; son, Kenneth Douglas (Linda) Fillmore of Cedar Hills, Utah; son, Michael Fillmore of Idaho Falls; daughter, Laurie (Wayne) McClure of Idaho Falls; son, Craig Fillmore of St. Anthony; daughter, Cathryn Jo (Prescott) Lillian of Hartsville, South Carolina; son, Marc (Denise) Fillmore of Jefferson City, Tennessee; also 22 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren. His siblings; sisters, Dee Maynard of Riverton, Utah, Karen (Stan) Washburn of Island Park, Idaho, Kathy (Randy) Johnson of Liberty Lake, Washington, Rachel Fillmore of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Renee (Reuel) Davis of Meridian, Idaho; brothers, Bill (Marilyn) Fillmore of Chandler, Arizona, Karl (Shayne) Fillmore, brother-in-law, Lee Briggs of Idaho Falls, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Deanne; son, Bryan Fillmore; his parents, Kenneth and Gwen Fillmore; sister Vicki Briggs; brother-in-law, Monte Maynard, and grandsons: Trevor Lillian and Michael Larson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the Fox Hollow Ward, 2345 17th South, Idaho Falls, with Bishop Jason Rhodes officiating. A visitation will be held from 6-7:30 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2023, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to the service.
