Obituary

Kenneth James "Kay" Sims, 101, of Idaho Falls, died September 8, 2006, at Idaho Falls Health and Rehabilitation.

He was born July 27, 1905, in Garden City, Utah, the oldest of eleven children to James and Rose Tueller Sims. He grew up in the Bear Lake area. He graduated from Garden City High School and attended Utah State University and a mechanics school in Portland.

On June 9, 1926, he married P. Bernice Weston. They have lived in Salt Lake City, where he worked as a mechanic and bus driver for Greyhound Bus Lines. They moved to Pickelville, Utah, where they ran a dairy farm, and then on to Evanston, Wyoming, where he co-owned a Dodge dealership with his brothers. They then moved to Arco, where he farmed and ran a Phillips Petroleum distributorship. They retired to Sequim, Washington, where they lived for 20 years before moving to Idaho Falls. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, served as a counselor in a Bishopric, and was a high priest at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Lions Club and while living in Arco, he served as Mayor. His hobbies were fishing and gardening. Kay was always a gentleman.

He is survived by his two sons, Weston K. (Beverly) Sims of Idaho Falls, and Spence K. (Jan) Sims of Rigby , a daughter, Sharlene (George) Ross of Idaho Falls, a sister, Louise Calder of Salt Lake City, and 3 brothers, Theron Sims of McMinville, OR, Milford Sims of Cody, WY, and Gordon Sims of Salt Lake City, and 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters, and three brothers.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m., Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at Fish Haven Cemetery, in Fish Haven, Idaho. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
