Lois LaRene Hiatt Crook, 89, passed away, surrounded by family, at her home on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. LaRene was born in Enterprise, Utah on November 12, 1922 to Earl & LaRetta Hiatt. She moved to Fallon, Nevada as a young child. She met her sweetheart, Howard Crook in Fallon, and they were sealed to each other April 23, 1943 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They spent their first twenty years together in Fallon farming and operating Lahontan Mill & Feed and raising six children. They moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1963 where they purchased Snake River Nursery and founded Town & Country Gardens. LaRene worked by Howard's side as the business grew to a major enterprise. She also worked at Top Fabrics for several years during the winter months. In 1984, Howard and LaRene retired from the garden center and then served an LDS mission to St. George, Utah. Upon completing their mission they purchased a home in St. George where they lived until 2001, when they returned to Idaho Falls to be closer to their children and grandchildren. A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, LaRene served faithfully as Relief Society President, Young Women President, and many other callings. Her life was one of selfless service and she was always the first to visit and comfort those in need. LaRene loved life and lived it to the fullest, bringing joy and laughter to all. Survivors include her husband, Howard Crook of Idaho Falls; children: Dan (Jeanine) Crook of Twin Falls; B. Ann (Rick) Lattin of Fallon, Nevada; Gary (Joy) Crook of Silverton, Oregon; John (Maren) Crook of Idaho Falls; Teresa (Bill) Bush of Idaho Falls; Kris (Wayne) Clark of Rigby; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and her sister Polly Benard, of Duluth, Georgia.
