LaRene Williams Smith, our loyal, talented, patient, mother and grandmother, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015.
She was born in Parker, Idaho, on March 23, 1914. Her parents are Alma and Sarah Williams. LaRene was the fifth of seven children. Her parents, brothers and sister, Iona, Melva, Rhea, Leo and Glendon preceded her in death. Blanche McBride of Idaho Falls, married to Roy McBride, survives her.
LaRene attended schools in Osgood and Idaho Falls. She graduated from Ricks College and College of Southern Idaho (Caldwell). LaRene taught school in Vancouver, Washington, Idaho Falls, and Payette, Idaho, where she retired.
LaRene was very gifted in dramatics, debate and music. She wrote many 3-act plays, poems and songs. She and her husband, Elwin M. Smith, directed dance groups for the LDS Church. LaRene held various positions in the LDS Church; key among them was chorister and pianist.
LaRene was married to Elwin M. Smith in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 13, 1937. They have two children, LaJuan Webster of Salt Lake City (preceded in death by her husband, Mike Webster of Cedar City, Utah), and Sid E. Smith, married to Dolly Stokes Smith. LaRene and Elwin have 24 grandchildren, great and great-grands.
Services will be held from 6:00-7:30 p.m., Friday, November 20, 2015, at the Cottonwood Second Ward Relief Society Room, 6890 South 2228 East Whitmore Way, Salt Lake City, Utah. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Monday, November 23, 2015, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, November 23, 2015, at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
