IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry Darwin
Osmond
January 7, 1937 – April 19, 2024
Larry D. Osmond, 87, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024, at his home. He was under the care of Aspen Hospice.
Larry was born on January 7, 1937, in Afton, Wyoming to John D. and Martha Osmond. He went to grade school in Thayne, Wyoming.
At age 11, his first job was working in the barber shop/poolroom for his dad. Larry was the youngest licensed salesperson in Wyoming selling hunting and fishing licenses. He played pool with Hell's Angels and won.
Larry and his friends spent a lot of time hunting on skis in the winter. He earned his Eagle Scout award in 1954 and graduated from Star Valley High School in 1955. Larry was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a Webelos leader and a home teacher.
He moved to Seattle, Washington, and went to work for Boeing Aircraft where he worked on and designed parts for the B52. Larry later moved to Logan, Utah, where he worked for Thiokol as a drafting checker and group leader. He worked on Minuteman 1, 2, 3, and the Hound Dog.
Larry moved to Idaho Falls and went to work for EBASCO. He worked for the Nuclear Service at NRF as a full-fledged inspector on refueling nuclear reactors, E.G&G as a master inspector and group leader, and Lockheed as master inspector. He retired on January 31, 1999. He was invited to see the Navy shoot the biggest guns the Navy had into the Big Buttes.
Larry met Norma Bird at a church dance. They were married on August 12, 1966, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. By the end of the first year, they had a baby boy, and they took Larry's children from a previous marriage, making them a family of seven.
He enjoyed traveling, building models, swimming, exploring, watching movies, eating popcorn and French fries, loved his marigolds that grew 2 to 3 feet tall, listening to music, and lastly his favorite song Summer Place.
Larry loved volunteering at Mountain View Hospital. Larry did many different jobs volunteering and loved helping others.
Larry wanted to see everything there is to see on this planet, feel every emotion, think every thought. He wanted to chew up life and swallow it – then lick all the good juices off his lips.
Larry had a brain bleed in 2019 leaving his left side useless. Larry seems to hum silently, like a nuclear power reactor.
Astrology for the modeler
Capricorn Dec 22 to Jan 19
Favorite Color: Panzer Red Brown
Traits: cautious, organized, practical, serious…. quiet
Workbench: shows no evidence that he builds.
The Capricorn modeler takes the hobby more seriously than most,
and probably needs to be reminded that is supposed to be fun.
You won't find him impulsively buying the newest and the hottest kits
the minute they hit the hobby shop.
At a model contest, the Capricorn will either be as well
Camouflaged as a Stealth Bomber in the dark of night, or he's
the chairman of the contest.
Larry was preceded in death by his son, Robert Osmond; parents: J.D. and Martha Osmond; grandparents: Vasco and Mary Osmond; and grandson, Robert Lopez.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Osmond; sons: Steve Osmond and Kevin Osmond; daughters: Cindy (Ken) Wood and Debra (Trick) Kreidler; granddaughter, Adilynn Osmond; and several other grandkids, and great grandkids.
