Obituary

Baby Laura was born on September 29, 1988 in Idaho Falls, ID to Joe Keele and Arantza Zabala. Laura was a free spirit who lived life to the fullest and on her own terms; and on her own terms she decided when she no longer wished to be here. She died in the woods near her beloved Ashland, OR on June 10, 2012. She was 23 years old. Laura attended Longfellow Elementary, Taylorview Junior High, Idaho Falls High, and graduated from Westview High in 2007. She attended Central Oregon Community College, Rogue Community College and Portland Community College. At the time of her death she was working at an organic farm in Gold Hill, OR. Laura is survived by her mother; her mother's partner, Jim Simonds; her sister Yvette Warren; her nephews, RJ and Damon Steele; her Abuelita; and aunts, uncles and cousins too numerous to name. Laura was preceded in death by her Grandma Keele and her "Daddy Joe," a loss from which she was never able to recover. Laura's desire for the nephews she adored was that they have the opportunity to go to college. Toward that end the family is requesting donations to their college fund. Donations can be made in Laura's name at any Wells Fargo Bank branch. The donations are in lieu of flowers because Laura would not want anyone to "murder" any flowers for her. Laura was an old soul and a non-conformist (you may even have known her as Hazel Boone) whose love touched everyone she knew. She was a creative artist, photographer, writer, actress, dancer, musician and poet. She cared about Mother Earth and was always most at peace in the woods. Laura was a gifted athlete in soccer and snowboarding. She was a vagabond who loved hiking and camping in the woods or on the beach, and had many adventures hitch hiking. She and a friend Rewel completed an amazing 980 mile journey last summer pedaling bicycles from Northern OR to Southern CA, staying in a hotel only one night, and with everything they needed (including the dog) in their bike trailers. A wake in celebration of her life will be held at Sealander Park in Idaho Falls on Sunday, June 17 from 10:00 AM until dark. Please dress casually and bring lawn chairs. There will be a short program at 10:00 AM. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.coltrinmortuary.com
