LaVar Russell Likes, 86, of Ammon, passed away May 16, 2012 at Pine Brook Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice. He was born October 13, 1925, in Kampsville, Illinois, to Russell Richard Likes and Dora Marie Foster Likes. He married Sylvia Paulsen. She passed away and on November 23, 1991, he married Cleo Arlene Knutson in Idaho Falls. LaVar served in the U.S. Air Force for over twenty years before retiring. Following retirement, he worked for the Idaho Potato Growers and at Cabela's doing security work. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, guns, and reloading his own bullets. He is survived by the following: Wife, Cleo Likes of Ammon; Children: Tricia (Tim) Morehead of Livermore, California; Gail Raymond of Idaho Falls;Paul Likes of Kansas; and Cathy (Ray) Hays of Texas; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; Sister, Florence Ada Likes; Brother, Tom Mix Likes of Idaho Falls;Step-children: Carey Daniels, Chris (Jody) Daniels, Craig (Jennifer) Daniels, Cathy (Kent) Buttars, Carla (Mike) Algate; 12 step-grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren. LaVar was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Dora Likes; a brother, Delbert Lewis Likes; sisters: Jeanette Dora Likes, Viola May Likes, Violet Marie Likes, and Bertha Lyda Likes. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the services also at the mortuary.
