Lavern was born to William David and Racie Bell Pinson Poplin in Ferriday, Louisiana on July 28, 1925. She grew up in Melville, Louisiana, and graduated from Melville High School in 1942. She lived in Melville until she moved to Idaho Falls to marry her sweetheart. She married Ephraim Eugene Stucki in the Salt Lake City Temple on May 29, 1944. Ephraim died January 3, 2006. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the church as Relief Society President, Primary Presidency and Young Women Presidency. She and her husband served a mission to the Bishop's Storehouse in Idaho Falls.
She served as financial chairman of the PTA for several years while her children were in Junior High and High School. She was a homemaker and seamstress who enjoyed quilting, sewing, children, and grandchildren. She was a caring mother who was always interested in others, and put their needs first; she loved people and her greatest talent was making friends.
Survivors include her three daughters; Patrees' Stucki of Idaho Falls, ID, Annett (Gerald)Esplin of Twin Falls, ID, and Becky (Monty) Smith of Georgetown, Idaho; and her son, Clyde E. (Charlotte) Stucki of Rexburg, Idaho, 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ephraim Stucki , her sister, Mary Ellen Poplin Green, brothers William David Poplin Jr., and Luey Virgil Poplin. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 2, 2006, at the Coltman LDS Ward Chapel, 12448 N. 5th East, Idaho Falls with Bishop Larry Clayton officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 1, 2006, at the church and one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at Grant-Central Cemetery under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary in Idaho Falls. Condolences may be sent to the family online at http://www.coltrinmortuary.com
