Leila Mary Schwarze Bendixsen, 89, of Shelley, Idaho, died Monday, September 26, 2011, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center from injuries suffered in a automobile accident. She was born April 23, 1922, in Milo, Idaho, to George Schwarze and Lillian Kienker Schwarze. She grew up in Milo and graduated from Ammon High School in 1939. She attended Littlerock Arkansas Community College. On March 13, 1947, she married Warren Jack Bendixsen in Elko, Nevada. He passed away September 1, 1993. Jack and Leila farmed in Shelley for a number of years. After her children were grown, she completed her education at Idaho State University where she earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree in secondary and elementary education. She taught school at Bonneville High School and Goodsell Elementary in Shelley for several years. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Leila was an avid bridge and canasta player. She was a member of several card groups and enjoyed getting together with friends every week for competitive rounds of cards. She loved her freedom and independence and was most happy living "on her own" in her beautiful rural home next to the Shelley foothills. Survivors include: daughter, Dana (David) Harris Twin Falls, Idaho Sons: John B. "Benny" (Paula) Bendixsen of Idaho Falls and Shane Bendixsen of Boise, Idaho; Sisters: Ina S. (Bob) Oyler and Dawn Peterson both of Idaho Falls Brothers: Dave (Irma) Schwarze of Boise and Kenneth (Carol) Schwarze of Milo; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; 2 brothers: Weston Schwarze and Robert Schwarze and a grandson, Tyler J. Harris. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2011, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the services at the mortuary.
