Leona Muriel Tucker, 76, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at the Gables of Ammon which had been her home for the past two months. She was surrounded by family and caring staff. She was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice. Leona was born on April 6, 1933 in New Liskeard, Ontario, Canada, to Joseph Isaac Laffrenier and Edna Florence Sampson, both of Canada. She grew up in the Kenebec-Matachwan area and attended New Liskeard High School where she graduated a year early in 1949. She met her first husband, George Allen Miller and they were married on July 1, 1949 in Cobalt, Ontario, Canada. They had 4 daughters and 2 sons. In 1967, Leona packed up the 4 youngest children and moved to the Kernville, California area. There she ran a restaurant and eventually met her second husband, Robert Nathan Tucker who had one son. They married in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 7, 1970. They raised the children in Simi Valley, California and eventually settled in Lake Isabella, California. Hard work was Leona's constant companion. Her independent spirit led her to run restaurants, obtain her real estate license, run a day care, and open a clothing consignment store. She loved the grandkids fiercely, remembering every birthday and planning every Easter egg hunt and picnic she could. Most recently, she was employed as a cashier at Wal-Mart and then worked in the gift shop at Cardon's Car Wash, which she took great pride in and hated leaving as her health deteriorated. Leona moved to Idaho in 2002. She enjoyed her Idaho home in Autumn Cove on the Yellowstone Highway. She loved being there amongst wonderful neighbors and friends. She is survived by many loved ones, namely her children: Nancy Cooper (John) and Laurie DePew (Kevin) both of Simi Valley, California; Bruce Miller (Dorothy) of North Bay, Ontario, Canada; Michael Miller (Cindy), Valerie Crowder, and Diane Liebel (Mark) all of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Michael Tucker (Carolyn) of Ridgecrest, California and her siblings: Mary Laffrenier of Brampton, Ontario, Canada and Mildred Boucher of Haileybury, Ontario, Canada; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Robert Nathan Tucker; her parents, Isaac and Edna Laffrenier; a sister, Joyce Welsh; and a brother, Junior Laffrenier. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 2, 2010, at the Willow Creek LDS Ward, 6925 N. 15th E., Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and Friday one hour prior to the services at the church. Leona's remains will be interred next to husband in Kernville, California, at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com
