Obituary

Dr. L. John Bingham passed away on July 7, 2007, due to injuries from a fall.

Jack was born Dec. 15, 1918, in Ogden, Utah, to Leonard O. Bingham and Huldah Nordquist Bingham. He was their third child and only son.

Soon after his birth, the family moved to Salt Lake City where his early schooling was completed. He completed his pre-med at The University of Utah before accepting an L.D.S. mission call to the German-Austrian Mission. He was with the missionaries evacuated from Europe at the beginning of World War II. He completed his mission in the Central States.

After his mission, Jack attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania.

Jack married Helen Williams in the L.D.S. temple in Salt Lake City, Utah on Dec. 30, 1943. They were the proud parents of five children, John Williams Bingham, Jeffrey Marvin Bingham, Susan Bingham, David Leonard Bingham, and Kathy Bingham. During this time, he served as Captain in the Army Medical Corp with occupation forces in Pacific at the end of World War II. He received an honorable discharge from the Air Force Reserve in 1971.

He began his first private practice as a family doctor in Kamas, Utah, in 1947. He later took his family to Idaho (where his favorite hunting grounds were.) He was in Blackfoot, Idaho for one year before taking over a family practice in Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1955. He practiced in Idaho Falls until 1983, when he semi-retired to St. George, Utah, with a group of emergency room physicians.

Upon full retirement, he and his wife accepted an L.D.S. mission to the Manila, Phillipines Mission as the area medical coordinator from 1989 to 1991. Due to failing health, Jack and Helen had just moved from St. George, Utah, this last April to be closer to family.

Jack held several positions in the L.D.S. church as a Stake High Councilman, High Priest Group leadership, Sunday School Teacher, beloved Home Teacher. He has also been involved with civic groups, Kiwanis and Lion's; and even served as Co-president with his wife, Helen of the Clair E. Gale Junior High School.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Helen and his children, Jeff Bingham, Round Hill, Virginia, Susan (Trent) Whittle, Orem, Utah, and Kathy Bingham,Idaho Falls, Idaho, 7 precious grandchildren and 9 equally precious great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters, Helen and Lenore, a nephew, Richard Norling, and two sons, John and David.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2007, in Idaho Falls, Idaho at Coltrin Mortuary. There will be a viewing at 12:00, with the service at 1:00p.m. Burial is at the Fielding Memorial Park.

The family wish to express their gratitude for the wonderful care given to Jack at Greenwood Manor, even though he was there for only a short time. Also, a thank you to Brad from Community Nursing Services for helping to keep him as strong as possible. A special thank-you to the complete staff in the Emergency Room and the those in the American Fork Hospital who were so kind, caring and considerate to Jack and his family during the final hours of that dear man's life.
