IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leroy
Leavitt
November 29, 1940 – June 4, 2021
LeRoy (Roy) Leavitt, 80, of Idaho Falls, passed away Friday, June 4, 2021, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Roy was born on November 29, 1940, to Edwin Leavitt and Fern Garner in Rexburg, Idaho. He farmed with his uncle near Roberts. He graduated from Shelley High School in 1959.
On March 20, 1971, he married his sweetheart, LaDeana Marker, in Pocatello, Idaho. To this union, two boys were born. They made their home in Idaho Falls. For over 30 years, Roy worked as a sporting goods purchasing agent for Fanning Wholesale.
He was a member of the Methodist Church.
Sitting idly was never an option for Roy. He never let anything slow him down and often joked that he had never been stuck in his life, only momentarily delayed. With seemingly endless energy he utilized every waking moment to serve his community and enjoy the outdoor activities he held dear.
Roy had a passion for elk hunting with his muzzleloader in Island Park that eventually led him to become a Hunter Education instructor where he instilled his love of the sport to his students. He was the embodiment of volunteerism and served in leadership positions with the Idaho Hunter Education Association, Pheasants Forever, Snowmobile Club, and Bill's Island Association. He spent thousands of hours volunteering for the Idaho Fish and Game and other organizations, earning several lifetime awards for his service and dedication.
Over the last several years, Roy used his knowledge of wildlife to live-trap beaver and relocate them into areas that will benefit from their presence on the landscape for years to come. Fish and Game plans to dedicate their new beaver holding facility in honor of his efforts. Roy's generous contributions to the world are vast. The impact of his life will not only continue to be felt by those that knew him but also by those that did not and should have.
He is survived by his wife, LaDeana Leavitt of Idaho Falls, ID; his son, Jerry (Christy) Leavitt of Wasilla, AK; his sister, Thella (Steven) Hill of Malad, ID; his daughter-in-law, Krista Leavitt of Idaho Falls, ID; his grandchildren: Hunter Leavitt and Mikayla Leavitt.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Leavitt; and his parents.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. Online condolences may be sent to www.coltrinmortuary.com .
