IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Libbie Rose
Denhartog
July 30, 1927 – December 3, 2019
Libbie Rose DenHartog, 92, of Shelley, ID, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.
Libbie Rose was born on July 30, 1927, to Emil Knobloch and Frieda Doerr Knobloch in Lyon County, Iowa, in the farmhouse that her Grandfather built, where her father was also born. Her mother had immigrated from Germany in 1925. On the farm, much responsibility fell to the young Libbie as the oldest of nine children. The family 'eked' out an existence during the great depression and the dust bowl time in the Midwest.
The family spoke German exclusively. It was difficult when Libbie went to school, though she was able to learn English quite quickly. She loved school and was devastated that her parents only allowed her to attend through the 8 th grade. They thought they needed her help on the farm.
Libbie married Vern DenHartog on December 20, 1947. During the next few years, 4 children were born. Vern was in the military for part of that time. Libbie lived in a series of small apartments with no running water and only a small hot plate. She worked to help pay for room and board. Vern was a long-distance trucker and he was gone much of the time. After a while he found a job with a trucking company in SLC, so the family relocated from the Midwest to the West, moving first to Utah and later to Idaho. They had 3 more children.
Libbie loved the West, she liked the mountains and the people. Her marriage later ended in Idaho. It was here that she first learned of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She became a member of the church in March of 1967. She was an active member for the remainder of her life. She enjoyed family history and temple work.
She worked for the City of Idaho Falls for 22 years and lived in Shelley for the remainder of her life. She loved gardening and maintained a beautiful yard. She was thoughtful of friends, neighbors, and was a wonderful cook.
She is survived by her sister, Esther (Dennis) Warner; her 5 brothers: Gilbert (Vickie, deceased), Silas (Edith), Melvin (Wilma), Clyde (Charlene), and Bill (Ellie) Knobloch; her 7 children: Alan (Patricia) DenHartog, Bonnie (Greg) Ingram, Charla Layton, Donna (Allan) Christensen, Edie (Steve) Hart, Dean (Cheryl) DenHartog, and Bobbi Warner; 28 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Vern DenHartog; her brother, Alfred Knobloch; her sister, Naomi Knobloch; son-in-law, Greg Ingram.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 12, 2019, at the Woodville Church, 1555 North 700 East, Shelley.
